Reading
At S.U.N. School we believe in developing a reading culture throughout the years by creating welcoming reading corners containing a wide range of quality texts, attractive book displays and material relating to our current topics. Children are encouraged to read for pleasure and understand the importance of reading as an essential life skill.
Parents and carers are an integral part of the children’s reading journey. We encourage the children to read at home on a regular basis, and communication between home and school is recorded in a 'Reading Record'. We ask that children read at home dily in Reception and KS1 and at least three times a week in KS2.
Please find below details of how reading is taught and organised in each class, including intent, implementation and impact of our reading curriculum, as well as tiops for how parents can help their children's reading at home.
Also below is our Early Reading and Phonics Policy which details our use of Little Wandle systematic synthetic phonics teaching.
